5 Things You Should Never Do When Being RobbedWe all silently hope and pray we never get robbed: we make elaborate plans, install security gadgets, build tall fences and do all sorts to protect ourselves and our valuables. However, I am as sure as the morning star that someone, somewhere is being robbed right now, some have been robbed today and a whole lot more people are still going to be robbed before sunset (or sunrise as the case may be).

In the past few years, I have seen quite a number of patients who would have rather got robbed than meet the fate they did.

In this article, I'll discuss some of the decisions of these patients and a brief advice on what to do if you find yourself in such situation.

These are tips everybody should be know about, so do good to share this with your folks using the share buttons below this post.

1. Do not run: You can't possibly out-run a bullet, so running from an armed robber in broad daylight or an open space may be an invitation to disaster.

Mr. O. D., was a 48-year-old printing contractor who went to Abuja to deliver a job, he was paid in cash! It was late on Friday, banks have closed and he has to be in Lagos on Saturday, unfailingly!

So, he boarded a public bus which was robbed very close to Lagos.

Trying to out-smart his assailants, he got down from the bus with his brief case clutched to his chest and took to his heels.

One of the armed robbers saw him and shot him with an AK-47 before he could get too far.

He fell, the robber got to him and dispossessed him of his precious brief case.

By the time I saw him, he has spent 3 months in the hospital!

X-rays show multiple fractures in his pelvic bones and a dislocated left hip joint.

He was robbed, had to spend months in the hospital with his business suffering with him, and his bones in a state of absolute disrepair.

How much could the money he so treasured have been that will compensate for all these losses.

2. Do not cross the road: If you are being robbed, you are not likely to be in the right frame of mind to make some delicate decisions such as how fast an oncoming vehicle is moving or how close it is.

Mr. R. S. was a 38-year-old civil servant with the Lagos State Government.

According to an eye witness account, he packed his car along a trunk A road (for a reason nobody could ascertain) and was accosted by 2 young guys wearing dark shades.

Obviously, they were trying to rob him. He crossed the express road in panic and got hit by a fast moving truck in the process sustaining multiple fractures in the limbs and a severe traumatic brain injury.

He was brought to the emergency room unconscious having bled severely before the eye witness (a road-side vulganizer) could summon courage to take him to hospital in his own car.

He died shortly on arrival.

Meanwhile, the assailant took to their heels after the incident.

In addition to this, do not attempt other dangerous ventures such as scaling a high fence, jumping across gullies etc.

3. Do not argue: As a rule, do not argue with anybody with a guy with a gun or any other weapon!

Armed robbers are, almost always, high on drugs and may not be able to rationally distinguish between an harmless explanation and a confrontation.

Mr. W. B. was a 32-year-old commercial motorcyclist. He was sleeping in his own house, with his family, when he was attacked by two armed boys.

According to his wife, the robbers said the money they got from him was too small and that they wanted more but he was not ready to part with any more.

This resulted in an argument and was stabbed in the jaw wit an unknown sharp object. It was a very deep wound communicating with the mouth.

He was brought to the hospital bleeding from mouth, nose and the wound site.

He struggled for life for a while, and the medical team did their bit, but the damage has already been done.

He aspirated what I  thought was blood and was gone before anybody could save him!

4. Do not try to be a superstar: I know you've seen several films where actors disposessed their assailants of dangerous weapons. I know you think you can do it too, and I believe you!

But you should realize that a robbery scene is not a film set where the director can order for a retake of a scene not well taken and you know what the guy with the weapon is going to do even before you get on stage.

If you want to convince yourself, why not go to Hollywood, Bollywood or Nollywood and emulate your heroes.

5. Do not panic: A lot of people have a well rehearsed plan of what to do when they are being robbed but they will never execute such plans because they are jittery.

The robbers can also sense this and may capitalize on this weakness.

Studies have shown that panic is a major cause of crime scene mortality and morbidity, and I am writing this so you won't be a victim.

I am not asking you to be a coward, but asking for a little discretion on your path which may save you a lot more than anybody could ever steal from you, &save you a lot of pains, even your life.
