Top 4 Cancer-Causing Foods You Should Stop Eating Now

Top 4 Cancer-Causing Foods You Should Stop Eating Now
Today, cancer is estimated to hit about roughly one in three people; a statistic that should alarm anyone into taking preventative action in his life.

Pollution, genetics and diets are all contributing factors to how much cancer risk we expose ourselves to. While we may not have control over pollution or genetics, we can certainly take control with what we eat. Read on to see the top four pro-cancer foods you should start eating less of:

Potato chips and French fries are sadly found to be extremely  high in the carcinogen acrylamide, which the World Health Organisation has found to pose a "a major concern" to human health. Acrylamide is a chemical usually reserved for industrial purposes like making paper and plastics, but it is also formed in cooking when certain foods are heated to high temperatures - such as the frying of potatoes to make our salty fries and crunchy chips. Better to avoid exposure to this nasty chemical and make some baked sweet potato fries instead.

Oxidized fats. Fats found in unsaturated oils, such as olive oil, canola oil, or other vegetable oils, become rancid when they are exposed to both air and heat. Typically, the amount of air exposure they receive during storage and cooking is nominal, but the heat treatment they get during frying or repeated usage in the kitchen become dangerous. Researchers have found oxidized fats to produce "a variety of mutagens, promoters, and carcinogens," all of which are related to the formation of the cancer. Reduce your exposure to fried foods of all sorts, including fried chicken, vegetable tempura or even the carnival favourite - churros.

Nitrites. Sodium nitrite is a chemical additive that preserves the appearance and integrity of certain foods, usually processed meats, bacon and hot dogs. Cured foods like smoked fish will also usually contain nitrites (check the labels). This well-intended chemical becomes carcinogenic when it combines with the amines in the protein-rich food (exactly the animal foods they are applied to in the first place), and the carcinogen nitrosamine is formed as the by-product.

Grilled or charcoaled foods. Researchers have shown that the longer foods are exposed to intense direct heat - especially meat foods - the more carcinogens, called heterocyclic amines, are produced.

Pollution, genetics and diets are all contributing factors to how much cancer risk we expose ourselves to. While we may not have control over pollution or genetics, we can certainly take control with what we eat. Read on to see the top four anti-cancer foods you should be eating more of:

Berries. Fresh berries, particularly those with dark and purple hues, have been well-documented to contain strong doses of antioxidants which can help to prevent cancer. In addition, a powerful chemical known as phytoalexin has been shown to have inhibitory effects on the process of carcinogenesis, giving even more proof to consumers that these delicious sweet treats of nature deserve to be our daily desserts.

Turmeric. The yellow, slightly pungent spice used in Indian cuisine may have much to offer as an anti-carcinogen. It contains a chemical called curcumin which has been shown to inhibit cancer formation in cells. Spice up your tofu scrambles and baked fish fillets with a few dashes of this healing powder.

Tomato products. Lycopene has been proven time and again to be a strong anti-carcinogen in research laboratories. Tomato products, from tomato sauce to tomato paste, may contribute greatly to prostate cancer risk reduction.

Cruciferous vegetables. You probably can still hear your mother nagging into your ear at the dinner table: "Finish your broccoli!" But, she was right! Broccoli as well as cabbage, kale and other cruciferous vegetables, contain both antioxidants as well as minerals like selenium, which prevent cancer in a number of ways: Protecting the cells against oxidation; increasing detoxification of the cells; decreasing carcinogenic activity of the body; and slowing tumor growths. So eat your cabbage!

Health Benefits of Banana

Health Benefits of Banana
This is interesting. After reading this, you'll never look at a banana in the same way again.

Bananas contain three natural sugars - sucrose, fructose and glucose combined with fiber. A banana gives an instant, sustained and substantial boost of energy.

Research has proven that just two bananas provide enough energy for a strenuous 90-minute workout. No wonder the banana is the number one fruit with the world's leading athletes.

But energy isn't the only way a banana can help us keep fit. It can also help overcome or prevent a substantial number of illnesses and conditions, making it a must to add to our daily diet.

Depression: According to a recent survey undertaken by MIND amongst people suffering from depression, many felt much better after eating a banana. This is because bananas contain tryptophan, a type of protein that the body converts into serotonin, known to make you relax, improve your mood and generally make you feel happier.

Post Menopausal Syndrome: Banana contain vitamin B6. This regulates blood glucose levels and help us in times of stress and helps to suppress cranky moods

Anemia: High in iron, bananas can stimulate the production of hemoglobin in the blood and so helps in cases of anemia.

Brain Power - Potassium-packed fruit helps learning because it makes the pipils more alert. students find that they have more and do better on exams when hey eat banana at breakfast and lunch.

Energy - Banana supply proper carbohydrates necessary to replace the muscle glycogen (muscle sugar) used.

Potassium - High in potassium, bananas help the body's circulatory system deliver oxygen to the brain, helping maintain regular heartbeat and proper water balance in the body.

Bowel Health - Bananas are high in soluble fiber which helps stop constipation and helps to restore and maintain regular bowel function.

Increase Happiness - Bananas release a mood regulating substance called tryptophan which is converted to serotonin in the brain and thus elevates mood and makes us happier.

Helps Smokers Quit - Bananas contain vitamins and other minerals that lessen the effect of nicotine withdrawal both physically and psychologically.

TemperatureControl:  Many other cultures see bananas as a 'cooling' fruit that can lower both the physical and emotional temperature of expectant mothers. In Thailand , for example, pregnant women eat bananas to ensure their baby is born with a cool temperature.

So, a banana really is a natural remedy for many ills. When you compare it to an apple, it has FOUR TIMES the protein, TWICE the carbohydrate, THREE TIMES the phosphorus, five times the vitamin A and iron, and twice the other vitamins and minerals.. It is also rich in potassium and is one of the best value foods around.

So maybe its time to change that well-known phrase so that we say, 'A BANANA a day keeps the doctor away!'

PS: Bananas must be the reason monkeys are so happy all the time!

The #1 WORST Food that HARMS Your Brain (AVOID!)

The #1 WORST Food that HARMS Your Brain (AVOID!)
Very few people actually knew that certain foods you eat can indeed harm your brain, both in impaired learning ability as well as impaired memory. Not only that, a new research has also shown that wrong food and drink choices throughout your life can even lead to the terrible and daily diseases of Alzheimer

So let’s take a good look at foods that harm your brain, and what you can do about it…

A new UCLA study has recently published findings that eating a high-fructose diet over time degenerates your brain’s ability to learn and remember information.

Even worse, earlier research has shown that a high fructose diet also causes insulin resistance in the body to lead to other serious health complications such as diabetes, obesity and fatty liver

So what we have here is high-fructose intake = impaired memory and learning in your brain, increased risk of diabetes, and increased risk of heart disease. Oh, and we forgot to mention extra belly fat too…  Yum – who wants another can of soda pop or a large bowl of corn syrup sweetened ice cream!

The average American eating a modern western diet consumes a LARGE quantity of fructose daily through soft drinks, condiments, applesauce and baby food. According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the average American consumes roughly 47lbs of cane sugar and 35 lbs of high-fructose corn syrup per year

Note that many sports drinks, even though marketed as “healthy”, can have large amounts of corn syrup or even crystalline fructose as their main sweetener.  These sports drinks can be equally as bad as a soda for your body and your brain.  Don’t be fooled by the clever marketing showing pictures of pro athletes guzzling this stuff.

Also note that agave syrup (aka, agave nectar) which is marketed as a “healthy” sweetener as well, is one of the most concentrated forms of processed fructose in sweeteners as well.  I personally stay away from agave sweeteners as much as possible unless the amounts are very small.

Final piece of caveat about fructose… Yes, natural whole fruits do contain naturally occurring fructose, but generally contain MUCH smaller quantities of fructose than manufactured processed food products such as sweeteners and preservatives. Not to mentioned, fruits still do contain important antioxidants.

Other Foods that HARM Your Brain:

You probably already know some of the harmful health effects of these foods, but long term effects on your brain are yet another…

Trans fats - listed on food labels as “partially hydrogenated” oil, are man-made oils. They contribute to the creation of free radicals in the brain. These cause INFLAMMATION of the BRAIN, contributing to neuron DEATH and Alzheimer’s disease.

Mercury – Despite its well-known dangers and role as a potent neurotoxin, many naïve people increase their exposure to mercury daily by eating contaminated seafood. Most fishes high on the food chain such as tuna, shark, swordfish, tilefish, etc are usually contaminated. Limit your intake of these types of fish to a couple times of month and go for other smaller fishes such as salmon and trouth.

Refined Starches – White breads, white rice, and pasta are unhealthy for our bodies and our brains because they have been stripped of all fibre and nutrients. Refined starch quickly converts to sugar in the blood stream causing a spike in blood sugar levels

Blood sugar swings which are associated with mood swings and depression, and when blood-sugar levels are extremely low, the brain doesn’t get enough fuel and is not able to function properly.

However, the powerful DHA and EPA omega-3 fats in fish oils and krill oil have been proven in countless studies to protect your brain from damage over the years.

So, the choice is yours. Choose Wisely!

This will lead to more health problems in the future. Learn to try alternative medicine like herbal teas and eating fresh fruits as I always say “Gods food is our best defense against sickness”.

Even that social drink every once in a while is having its effect on your body without you even knowing it. Alcohol is terrible for the body and is known to be the number one cause or deterioration to the body and mind.

#4 Fast Food:

You could be eating some right now or had some already today. Fast Food is complete garbage and so are the beverages. You have to understand that fast food is a huge business that makes their profits on selling you a cheap product that tastes good so you keep coming back for more, after all how can a hamburger made with quality meat sell for less than 99 cents?

Health Benefits of Breast Milk for Adults

Health Benefits of Breast Milk for Adults
There is no doubt that breast milk help keep babies healthy, but can it also play a role in providing nutrition and guarding disease in adults as well?

It would seem that if it prevents breastfed infants from contracting certain diseases and illness that it just may do the same for adults as well. In fact, there are some people who are using this controversial form of nourishment to help guard against certain illnesses and even to help fight certain diseases and conditions, like cancer, Chrohn’s disease, acne, leukemia and diabetes.
So, is there a real benefit?
While there is no documented evidence specifically on using breast milk in adults, many believe that breast milk can heal or help conditions such as cancer, Chrohn’s disease, infections, rashes, and more.
In 1995, scientists at the Lund University used a compound found in breast milk called alpha-lactalbumin to kill brain tumor cells in a test tube. It seemed to have worked. The same research team, in 2004, used the breast milk compound to destroy many warts caused by HPV, creating the possibility that it could have implications for the treatment of cervical cancer, which is linked to the Human Papiloma Virus, HPV.
Howard Cohen, diagnosed with prostate cancer, drinks breast milk in smoothies and believes it has helped put this cancer into remission.
A woman named Patty uses breast milk to help treat her 15 year old son for Chrohn’s disease. She claims that using the breast milk has helped control her son’s dietary habits and other symptoms, so that he could again return to normal weight. Many Chrohn’s disease patients suffer weight loss from frequent bowel movements and other dietary symptoms.
In 2010, a Swedish team of researchers reported that the sizes of bladder tumors were reduced just 5 days after patients were injected with a breast milk compound. The team at Gothenburg University has been looking at the antibiotics properties of breast milk when a researcher noticed that cancerous lung cells in a test tube died on contact with breast milk. They than isolated the active compound - a protein called alpha-lactalbumin.
Breast milk is already been used by many as a topical agent for many different skin ailments. A science student at the University of California recently discovered that the lauric acid in breast milk reduces the irritation and spots, and has developed an acne cream from breast milk; the cream uses tiny gold particles to carry lauric acid into pores where its antimicrobial properties fight bacteria that cause acne.
Breast milk is a popular treatment, in Nigeria, for allergic conjunctivitis (Apollo) – a few drops of breast milk on the swollen conjunctiva is said to bring quick symptomatic relieve and resolution of the inflammation.
The extra-ordinary ability of breast milk in attacking rogue cells could be the reason breast milk appears to protect babies from all sorts of illnesses. Researches have shown that breast fed babies have reduced risk of many adult illnesses, including cancer.
Is there any possible risk?
The main risk that comes to mind for the use of breast milk by adults is that if the milk used was from an unknown source, there might be a possibility of contracting a disease. Even if the breast milk is from a milk bank, they do not know the source or whether the donor has diseases or not. Though breast milk banks usually screen their donors, there are risks of inaccuracies as with other tests. There could be other risks, but since little or no research has been done on adults using breast milk, it would be impossible to say for sure what the other risks may be present.
Another problem lies in the fact that if an adult have the need for breast milk and knows someone who is lactating, they may not be comfortable asking that person and if they do ask that person, she may not always be willing to donate her milk for that purpose. That’s when the adult will have to seek out alternatives like milk banks which may not provide breast milk to an adult with or without a prescription, and breast milk bank services is only available in a few developed countries.
Today, some patients suffering from immunological diseases – such as HIV, leukemia or hepatitis – or those others receiving therapy that reduces the immune system such as chemotherapy, have drunk breast milk in the hope that it can help adults, just as it helps sick babies.
However, when deciding whether or not this is an option for you, all factors must be considered, including what your family and friends thinks of this line of treatment, your cultural background and how to source for the breast milk.
Also, consult your doctor – he or she will be able to tell you whether it’s good for you or not.

Dietary Cure for Recurrent Hemorrhoids

Dietary Cure for Recurrent Hemorrhoids
If you think this is impossible, then understand that dietary habits are beneficial to people with recurrent hemorrhoids. So, what can make hemorrhoids (swollen veins within the anus) disappear?
Fluids – Consuming appropriate amounts of fluids each day is important for preventing dehydration, constipation and, potentially, hemorrhoids. Drinking eight cups of fluids daily may help prevent hemorrhoids. Optimum fluids include water, pure juices, low-fat milk, herbal tea, and broth-based soups.
Fruits and vegetables – In addition to enhancing hydration, fruits and vegetables supply antioxidants, which help protect your body from infection and disease. As valuable sources of fibre, fruits and vegetables may also help prevent or alleviate constipation and lower your risk for hemorrhoids. Fresh fruits and vegetables also provide lower calorie, nutritious alternatives to processed snack foods, which may contribute to weight gain and obesity.
Legumes – Some of the richest dietary sources of fibre, legumes, including beans, lentils and split peas, may also reduce your risk for constipation and hemorrhoids. One cup of cooked split-peas provides roughly 16g of fibre, while 1 cup of cooked black beans or lentils provides 15 to 15.5g.
Whole grains – Increasing your whole-grain intake is a valuable lifestyle step to hemorrhoids. Whole grains contain all nutritious components of the original grain plant. As a result, they are superior sources of vitamin, minerals, and fibre compared to refined grains, such as white flour. They also have a mild impact on your blood sugar levels, enhance satiation, and may ease the process of weight management. Fibre-rich, whole-grain foods include oatmeal, 1 per cent whole-grain breads, brown rice, wild rice, and air-popped popcorn.
Complex carbohydrates – Studies show that hemorrhoids are very uncommon in areas where a high-complex carbohydrate, high fibre, and unrefined diet are consumed. A high complex carbohydrate diet is rich in dietary fibre and flavonoids. Sources of complex carbohydrates include Broccoli, potatoes, squash, blackberries, pasta, wheat, brown rice.
Onions, garlic and ginger – They are all important to have in your diet regularly if you have hemorrhoids. There are even ways to treat hemorrhoids topically with the onions and garlic, but eating them is a great start to getting the healing they provide to tissues that has been damaged.
Flavonoids – They may help strengthen veins and reduce the severity and duration of hemorrhoids symptoms. Leading food sources of flavonoids include broccoli, grapefruit, pomegranates, limes, chocolate, soybeans, carrots, and blackberry.
Vitamin C – Foods rich in vitamin C are beneficial to hemorrhoid sufferers because they may heal tone and shrink veins. Vitamin C also promotes the healing process. Leading food sources of vitamin C are, cabbage, oranges, strawberries, tangerines and other mandarins.
Zinc – It is beneficial to hemorrhoids because it may speed the healing process and play a role in wound healing. Leading food sources of zinc are known to include barley, chicken, crab, oysters, lamb, beef, wheat, and turkey.
Now that you know it’s possible, eat away hemorrhoids and live a more enjoyable life.

5 Health Benefits Of Drinking Coffee

5 Health Benefits Of Drinking Coffee
Coffee has many benefits in helping as a natural preventative maintenance agent. Many years of trying to proof that coffee is unhealthy has taken a turn for the better, much of the observations done on those drinking coffee on a regular basis has much better results in terms of health.

Here we will look for the top 5 reason why you should drink coffee every day:

  • Alzheimer’s Disease and Dementia risk are reduced - There were studies done with light to moderate drinkers, and the results were those that drank coffee moderately which were about 3 to 4 cups a day had a significantly less chance to get Alzheimer or Dementia.
  • Strokes and Ischemic and Subarachnoid Hemorrhages has been researched to be lowered than those that do not drink coffee, the reduction is about 15 to 16 percent. The antioxidants from coffee is said to shield or provide protection to the brain’s blood vessel from certain cholesterol and preventing the person to develop blood clot in the brain. Although hemorrhagic strokes did not reduce with any amount of coffee consumed.
  •     Heart Diseases and Cardiovascular Diseases are reduced by about 23 percent when drinking about 2 to 3 cups of coffee a day. Although the caffeine increases the blood pressure it did not post any risk of increasing cardiovascular diseases. Coffee is suppose to help with endurance and also helps block out pain.Whether for exercises or video games, caffeine has proven its worth. Those that drink coffee regularly may need more as they will most likely burn out before those that do not normally drink.
  •     Diabetes are reduced by almost 50 percent with a consumption of about four cups a day and each additional cup is suppose to add about another seven percent.Coffee has a component which exhibits inhibitory affect on toxic hIAPP(human islet amyloid polypeptide) formation which is found usually in the pancreas. The hIAPP is found in people with type II diabetes, it was suggested that the hIAPP is connected to the loss of insulin secretion and Beta-cells in type II diabetes. From research, each cup of coffee consumed daily will lower the risk of type 2 diabetes by 7 percent. And additional cups are supposed to stack percentages.
  •     Liver Cancer and Cirrhosis, one of the products of caffeine is praxanthine, has been able to slow the growth of cell tissues in liver cancer, alcohol cirrhosis, and liver fibrosis.

Much of this is done with keeping yourself healthy as well, not just depending on coffee alone. And again coffee can be healthy providing sugar and cream or milk is added sparingly, so be weary the amount you dump into your coffee.

Most of the diseases that it helps are the ones that seem pretty common and this is easily a nice way to prevent it, all you need to do is drink coffee or tea. Tea contains the same property as coffee but at a lower caffeine level.
There are two things to watch out for when drinking coffee for health benefits.

Be wary of what you put in, sugar, milk, cream, etc. Too much calories can easily negate any effects that coffee can offer.

Try to use filter coffee instead of boiling it, this is to filter out the low-density lipoprotein or LDL

10 Health Benefits of Eggs

10 Health Benefits of Eggs
  • Eggs are great for the eyes. According to one study, an egg a day may prevent macular degeneration due to the carotenoid content, specifically lutein and zeaxanthin. Both nutrients are more readily available to our bodies from eggs than from other sources.
  • In another study, researchers found that people who eat eggs every day lower their risk of developing cataracts, also because of the lutein and zeaxanthin in eggs.
  • One egg contains 6 grams of high-quality protein and all 9 essential amino acids.
  • According to a study by the Harvard School of Public Health, there is no significant link between egg consumption and heart disease. In fact, according to one study, regular consumption of eggs may help prevent blood clots, stroke, and heart attacks.
  • They are a good source of choline. One egg yolk has about 300 micrograms of choline. Choline is an important nutrient that helps regulate the brain, nervous system, and cardiovascular system.
  • They contain the right kind of fat. One egg contains just 5 grams of fat and only 1.5 grams of that is saturated fat.
  • New research shows that, contrary to previous belief, moderate consumption of eggs does not have a negative impact on cholesterol. In fact, recent studies have shown that regular consumption of two eggs per day does not affect a person's lipid profile and may, in fact, improve it. Research suggests that it is saturated fat that raises cholesterol rather than dietary cholesterol.
  • Eggs are one of the only foods that contain naturally occurring vitamin D.
  • Eggs may prevent breast cancer. In one study, women who consumed at least 6 eggs per week lowered their risk of breast cancer by 44%.
  • Eggs promote healthy hair and nails because of their high sulphur content and wide array of vitamins and minerals. Many people find their hair growing faster after adding eggs to their diet, especially if they were previously deficient in foods containing sulphur or B12.

8 Health Benefits of Taking Foods Rich in Calcium

8 Health Benefits of Taking Foods Rich in Calcium
You must have heard it so many times that calcium is good for strong bones and teeth. Don't take it lightly, it is true.

Without calcium in your body, you can be vulnerable to various health conditions ranging from weak muscles to heart disease.

Calcium is found in dairy products, fish, vegetables as well as grains and a variety of fruit juices.

Below are the benefits of taking foods rich in Calcium:
  • Weight control - Obesity significantly increases the risk of Type 2 diabetes, certain cancers, and heart disease. In addition to eating a healthy diet, getting enough calcium can help prevent obesity. Healthy foods to help you reach your 1,000 mg calcium target include spinach, kefir, and milk.
  • Heart disease - Heart disease may be prevented by following a diet rich in ample amount of dietary calcium and low in saturated and trans fat. Calcium-rich food may block your body's absorption of fats, which can contribute to formation of plaque in heart arteries.
  • Cancer - A healthy antioxidant-rich diet has been touted as prevention for cancer, but research suggests that adequate calcium intake through dietary sources. Vitamin D is important because it helps your body absorb and preserve calcium in your body.
  • Strong bones and teeth - Calcium, along with phosphorus, magnesium, vitamin D and other nutrients, is essential for bone health. A diet low in calcium results in low blood calcium levels - causing calcium to be "withdrawn" from your bones. This weakens bones and can lead to conditions such as osteoporosis.
  • Reduced blood pressure - Taking calcium supplements regularly can help reduce high blood pressure levels in those with chronic blood pressure problems. A diet low in calcium may worsen an existing case of hypertension.
  • Airway function - Calcium secretion by cells is a chemical reaction involved in airway function and it plays a beneficial role in helping to keep your airways open, even in exercise-induce asthma. The smooth muscle of your airway passage opening depends on calcium regulation for contraction.
  • Muscle contraction - Muscle fibers use calcium as a regulatory and signaling molecule. Calcium secreted by your cells causes the regulatory proteins to react with myosin, creating "on" and "off" stages of muscle contraction. This causes a tightening or a relaxing of the muscle fibers.
  • Blood clotting - Calcium in milk is an important factor in blood clotting. Every time you get a cut or wound, your blood reacts to protect itself against excessive blood loss by clotting. Blood platelets combined with calcium, vitamin K and fibrinogen, a protein, move to the area around the wound to stop the bleeding by forming a blood clot. In order for your blood to clot, vitamin K and calcium need to be present.
Calcium is good for you but you should consider taking more from food sources and less of supplements.

As humans, we spend much of our existence stuffing our brains with stuff. Some stuff is worthless, some of it’s meaningful, some of it, well, it’s just stuff and there is an endless amount of it.

No matter how powerful our brains are, they need recuperation time, to be kept in shape, and even an occasional charge. Think of it as a tune up for your brain. Skipping brain maintenance is as silly as the person wandering the parking garage because they forgot where they parked. Is that you? Are you that person? Sure. We all are at some point. No worries, there is hope.

Here are some things you can begin doing as soon as today to begin the great brain tune up:

  • Eat Almonds: Almond is believed to improve memory. If a combination of almond oil and milk is taken together before going to bed or after getting up at morning, it strengthens our memory power. Almond milk is prepared by crushing the almonds without the outer cover and adding water and sugar to it.

  • Drink Apple Juice:Research from the University of Massachusetts Lowell (UML) indicates that apple juice increases the production of the essential neurotransmitter acetylcholine in the brain, resulting in an increased memory power.

  • Sleep well: Research indicates that the long-term memory is consolidated during sleep by replaying the images of the experiences of the day. These repeated playbacks program the subconscious mind to store these images and other related information.

  • Enjoy simple Pleasures: Stress drains our brainpower. A stress-ridden mind consumes much of our memory resources to leave us with a feeble mind. Make a habit to engage yourself in few simple pleasures everyday to dissolve stress from your mind. Some of these simple pleasures are good for your mind, body and soul.

  • Fast for a day: Fasting cleans and detoxifies our body. It is known fact that heavy food not only causes stress on our digestive system but also drains our brainpower. Fasting relieves toxic emotions such as anger, grief, worry, and fears – before they accumulate and cause disease. By cleansing toxic emotions, fasting strengthens metal clarity with increases memory, concentration, creativity and insight.

  • Exercise your mind:Just as physical exercise is essential for a strong body, mental exercise is equally essential for a sharp and agile mind. Have you noticed that children have far superior brainpower than an adult does? Children have playful minds. A playful mind exhibits superior memory power. Engage in some of the activities that require your mind to remain active and playful. Play scrabble or crossword puzzle,Volunteer, Interact with others, Start a new hobby such as blogging, reading, painting, bird watching, Learn new skill or a language.

  • Practice Yoga or Meditation: Yoga or Meditation relives stress. Stress is a known memory buster. With less stress, lower blood pressure, slower respiration, slower metabolism, and released muscle tension follows. All of these factors contribute significantly towards increases in our brainpower.

  • Eat whole wheat: The whole wheat germs contain lecithin. Lecithin helps ease the problem of the hardening of the arteries, which often impairs brain functioning.

  • Develop imagination: Greeks mastered the principle of imagination and association to memorize everything. This technique requires one to develop a vivid and colorful imagination that can be linked to a known object. If you involve all your senses – touching, feeling, smelling, hearing and seeing in the imagination process, you can remember greater details of the event.

  • Control your temper: Bleached food, excess of starch or excess of white bread can lead to nerve grating effect. This results in a violent and some time depressive behavior. Eat fresh vegetables. Drink lots of water and meditate or practice yoga to relieve these toxic emotions of temper and violent mood swings.
If  you are serious about putting your brain to optimum use, these are tips you should never neglect.

The Health Benefits of Natural Honey

“Everybody loves honey”, that what my folks say. I guess we all just enjoy the magic in the taste of that sweet sticky golden yellow liquid from the bees’ bosom.

However, more than the sweetness is the numerous benefits of this liquid. Honey has been known for thousands of years by the Chinese, Indian, Romans, Arabs, just about everybody, as the cure for all ailments known to man. The nutritional and medicinal properties of honey have even made some called it the “Elixir”.
However, we are not dwelling on all the benefits of honey in the post, just the health benefits and you bet, it has a whole lot of it. The health uses of honey are even so widespread that a name was given to treatment with natural honey - Apitherapy.
The health benefits of honey are broadly categorised into the following headings:

Allergies: Studies have shown pollens collected by bees to exert an anti allergenic effect, mediated by an inhibition of IgE immunoglobulin binding to mast cells. This inhibited mast cell degranulation and thus reduce allergic reaction.
Wounds Healing:  Honey has been successfully used to treat diabetic ulcers and extensive burns, when the patient cannot use topical antibiotics. This has been attributed to the antibacterial properties of honey which results for the low water activity causing osmosis, hydrogen peroxide effect, high acidity, and the bacterial activity of methylglyoxal. Honey has also been known to reduce odours, swelling, and scaring when used to treat wound. It also make wound dressings come off easily by preventing the dressing from sticking to the wound. This has also be linked to the mild anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory effects of honey.
Antioxidants: Honey contains polyphenols and flavonoids which have antioxidant properties. These nutrients are found I reasonable amount in honey making them extremely useful in mopping up free radicals.
However, the antioxidant properties of honey vary from one honey type to the other. For example, Millefiori honey and Manuka honey are particularly high in polyphenols and flavonoids, thus have high antioxidant activity. Dark, opaque honeys have also been proven to have stronger antioxidant activity than clear, light ones.
This antioxidant property made them to be of immense benefit in protection against free-radical-caused problems like ageing, cardiovascular diseases, cataract and cancer.
Antibiotics: This is about the oldest known property of honey, it’s the use for which it has been put to for thousands of years.
Honey inhibits the growth of many different types of bacteria, making it useful in treating bacterial infections. It is also used topical to prevent bacterial infection of wounds, thus accelarating healing.
Honey, especially Manuka Honey, have also been proven to be effective against resistant strains of bacteria such as MRSA (Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus).
Besides these health benefits of honey, it is also well documented that honey is effective against fungal and viral infections.
However, before you gob down the next bottle of honey, it may be worth the while to ask yourself these two questions: Is honey good for me? And is this the real honey?

Eat Nuts to prevevent Stroke, hypertension and Diabetes

Researchers have found that consuming the recommended daily intake of 1.5 ounces of nuts per day can help slim down and lower the cholesterol level of the body. A research team from the Louisiana State University looked at over 13,000 men and women and split them into groups according to their nut intake.

Those who ate more than a quarter of an ounce of cashews, almonds, hazelnuts, brazil nuts, pistachios or walnuts a day were classed as 'tree nut consumers'. They had lower body weight, as well as lower body mass index (BMI) and waist circumference than non-consumers.

Tree nuts contain high levels of high-density lipoprotein-cholesterol (good cholesterol) and low levels of C-reactive proteins, which are a main cause of inflammation of the heart or body.

Consumers were also 5% less likely to suffer metabolic syndromes that can cause stroke, heart conditions, high cholesterol and diabetes

Eat plenty of these!

Healthy foods for your kidneys

If you assume piling on the pounds, smoking, and suffering from high blood pressure or diabetes will not put your kidney under pressure, think again.

All those health hazards can affect a vital organ, the kidneys. Yet many people are not only unaware of their function and where they are, but also ignorant of how they can help to keep them in tip-top condition.

Statistics show that around one in 10 adults worldwide has some form of kidney damage, while every year millions die prematurely of heart attacks and strokes linked to chronic kidney disease and symptoms often don't become apparent until its later stages, leaving many people unaware of the damage the disease is doing.

The kidneys are two bean-shaped organs located on either sides of the body, just underneath the ribcage. The main job of your kidneys is to maintain a constant environment inside your body by filtering out waste products from the blood before converting it into urine, to help control the levels of salt and potassium in the body.

At each given moment, healthy kidneys ensure that blood levels of water, salts, and other key chemicals are in perfect balance. When they begin to fail, this very precise system starts to fall apart and this is why it is important to look after your kidneys because they work with your heart to control your blood pressure.

Though your two kidneys are each just about the size of your closed fist, they process about 200 quarts of blood per day to make about two litres of urine. To do their work, your kidneys need a constant supply of blood at a normal pressure.  Too little blood or too little pressure can cause acute, sudden kidney failure.  Too much blood or too much pressure can lead to scarring that can cause chronic, permanent kidney disease.

In view of all the major diseases which the kidney suffers from, feasting on a healthy diet has been found by experts to help prevent and cure these diseases.

Eating healthy foods and following a renal diet made up of kidney-friendly foods are important for people with kidney disease because they experience more inflammation and have a higher risk for cardiovascular disease.

Here are kidney-friendly foods with antioxidants that you may want to include in your healthy diet.

Onions are low in potassium and a good source of chromium, a mineral that helps with carbohydrate, fat and protein metabolism.

For people on a kidney diet looking to add more flavours to foods, try using a variety of onions including white, brown, red and others.
